How Do Remote Car Starters Work?

Remote car starters use s special button that will turn on the car and any other function that you have wired to your remote for you by bypassing the ignition switch that you usually use when starting your car. What you will find in your remote car starter includes a transmitter to push the buttons and is attached to your key fob, the receiver which is the main controlling unit that you will have installed in your car, the relay set which is controlled by the receive and will bypass the ignition switch to start your car, the hood safety switch that will open the hood, and the wiring components which include the antennas, wiring connectors, fuses, zip ties, and more.

Remote car starters cannot be used in vehicles with manual transmissions because there is no way that the vehicle can be starter without pressing in the clutch. The only way you can use this starter is if you have automatic transmission.(Edit: This is not true anymore, you can find remote car starters that will start any type of transmission, you just need a special part installed which is usually sold separately.)

The transmitter is a small radio like device that you will use. This device is responsible for transmitting the incoming signals that you will give when you press the button, such as starting your car. Once the signal has been received it will quickly verify it to make sure that the right person has engaged the starter.

Once this happens, the control unit will then activate the ignition switch and the system will turn on the engine. You should now hear your engine running.

These devices are highly recommended and if installed correctly they will not harm your vehicles ignition switch or security system. They should be installed by a professional if possible to avoid any complications.

Uses For Remote Car Starters

Even if you are not at home, you will still find the remote starter handy in so many ways. If you work, you can use your starter before you even leave your building. Most of the starters will work up to one mile away so you can start it in your office before you leave. If you are at a restaurant or walking in a dark parking lot at night after watching a movie, you will appreciate the feature of starting your vehicle before you get there.

Tips For Using Remote Starters For Cars

Its better to give your vehicle time to warm up before taking off than it is to just jump in it, turn it on and go down the road. If you don’t warm up your vehicle when it is cold, it may make your engine work harder to pump the fluids through and this can use more gas than you expect. When it has time to warm up, it thins the oil and then you can save on your gas.

Some claim that these starters are bad for vehicles but this however, is not a proven fact and should be verified by a certified mechanic before making this assumption. It’s safe on vehicles because it doesn’t tamper with the digital components found in the later model vehicles.
