What I found out was that not only do you need a quality scratch remover, but you also need other things to keep the paint looking like new after you use the car scratch repair kit.  It doesn’t have to cost hundreds of dollar either, like it would if you took it to a professional.  You can fix the scratches on your car and prevent them in the future for under $50.  The scratch remover I recommend costs under $20, and the rest are things to help prevent scratches.

There are hundreds of car scratch repair kits on the market today, and they all cost between $5 and $50 depending on the severity of your scratch.  That is the simple and straight forward answer.  But it’s much deeper than just buying the cheapest one on the shelf.  Many car scratch repair kits do not do what they say on the bottle.  If you have ever tried to repair a scratch on your car you know what I mean.  The last thing you want to do is buy the cheap product, only to find out you did more damage to your car than the scratch did and now you have to spend hundreds to take it to a professional.  Don’t make that mistake.

All scratch remover products will remove very light swirls, scratches and fading, but when it comes down to those deep scratches, only a few will do the job.  Most of the best car scratch repair kits also state that it can be easy to make the situation worse for those tough scratches because you must use a light sandpaper to get them out.  If you are not careful, you can make your scratch worse, and have to go with alternative of a expensive body shop.

Differences in Car Scratches

The basic of how most car scratch repair kits work is that there is a form of liquid applied to the scratch, rubbed in a circular motion for a couple minutes, then the area of the scratch is wiped clean.  Some scratch repair kits also come with abrasive material like fine sandpaper for deeper scratch repair.  If you are not careful with those though, you can end up with something that looks worse than before.

But if you take your time and be patient, it’s worthwhile to fix the scratch yourself over taking it to a professional that would charge hundreds of dollars.  It’s also a good idea to use a good wax or polish after using a car scratch repair kit because they can often leave the area looking dull.

A car scratch repair kit will do the job if you use the right one, but you want to keep the use of this product to a minimum. Hopefully with these tips, you can use a car scratch repair kit less often.

Tip 1: Wash your vehicle at a minimum of twice a month.

To better prevent scratches from occurring, wash your car once a week. Dirt, mud, and wet roads can all contribute to scratches on a car.

Tip 2: Don’t use your vehicle as a table.

Setting grocery bags, cans, anything else on your car can easily lead to scratches.

The first thing you should do is obviously to clean the surface of the scratch with some warm water and soap.  If you skip this step, you can end up damaging the area of the scratch even more.  You will only be rubbing the dirt around scratch even more and you will a dull area of car.  So make sure to clean the surface before applying any scratch repair liquid from the car scratch repair kit.

Next, is to apply the scratch remover polishing liquid to the scratched area.  Use circular motions to prevent any further damage.  The cloth type you need to use is either the one that come with the car scratch repair kit, or a clean cotton cloth.  Make sure to use some pressure while doing this step.  Rub the compound on the vehicle for about 2 minutes.

So what should you looking for in a scratch removing kit?  Those four things above.  Obviously you need the scratch removing solution, but you shouldn’t be using a cloth to apply it that will scratch your vehicle.  Use a micro fiber material.  The wax is for after removing the scratch to make the paint look new, and also use a sponge or sheepskin when cleaning the surface of your car.
